To conclude my conversation with Melissa, we delve into the idea of teaching money to children. Questioning whether the way we've done things is the only way to continue doing them.
Have we evolved beyond what we have believed currency to always be? Do we use money as a tool? And if we do, how do we use it? Does it mean more to us than a form of exchange? Does the value of your Bank Account determine how we feel about ourselves? Does it affect how you see other People? If you looked at the last 9 charges on your Credit Card, how do you feel about what you exchanged money for? Are we putting ourselves under financial pressure for things we don't really want? How much money do we spend out of obligation? Do we use spending money as a distraction from money problems, from stress, as an escape from some part of our reality? They aren’t easy questions, but important ones. I loved speaking with Melissa and was so grateful for how she so easily allowed our conversation to flow into a variety of topics. Love, Money and Success are deeply intertwined through the threads of our lives. Yet they remain some of the most unquestioned areas of our realities. What questions would you ask now?

Does forcing and being desperate for money make it appear? Is money really as hard to come by as we believe? Does it require as much sacrifice, devastation and overcoming as we are taught? Have we vilified money or those that have it?
Money doesn't buy happiness but being happy about money can. We can choose how we want to feel about money. Do we though? Melissa draws some interesting conclusions in regards to the messaging we receive about money throughout our lives. And why we have certain ideas around money. Do we still view money the same way as all the generations before us? Are we still applying the same mentality as when a house in the western world was worth $60,000.00? $100.00 is a lot of money to my Grandparents, but is that a relative ideal in today's society?
How much of our lives revolve around money that we don't even notice? How often do we think about money without realising it? Why can money feel like a one way street? Why do we feel responsible to money? Melissa and I start trekking through all the threads of life where money shows up. I was in 2-week quarantine when I had this conversation with Melissa, certainly an interesting and intriguing way to pass some of my time.
What happens to society if the only thing we were measured by is ourselves? How often do we make choices in the spirit of what we value, of what we want? How well do we understand what we really want? The earlier we begin to question the status quo in life, the more fluidly we move towards what we want. The fourth part of my conversation with Melissa Meagher is a little more layered. |
