What is a Company? On the surface, a Company could be considered an entity that buys and sells Goods or provides Services. That is a rather limiting definition for an entire ecosystem. The majority of value in a Company exists outside of this definition. Because it ignores all the ways a Company can be successful and reduces the Success it can achieve to quite a limited funnel. That isn't to say that a lot of money can't be made in that small ecosystem. But it does dilute and highly under value, the amount of potential any one Company actually has.
When we limit the value of our Companies to their ability to generate Revenue and use this as the basis of all of our decisions. We minimise what Success is available. Actually minimising the amount of Revenue available. Considering all information, all data around its influence on money, discredits all the other methods through which we can generate Revenue. And replaces Success with a portion of the Revenue we have the ability to generate.
The thing is, it's never about the money, because when it is, we stop paying attention to anything that doesn't immediately look like dollar bills. And in reality, those things we choose to ignore are the most important. Our blind spots are usually ignored in favour of easy and exisiting plans. Limited focus costs, creating a database of liabilities which could have been assets. Imagine now, that you have a Company worth $500 Million. You achieved that level of Revenue by only focusing on money. Money is just one capacity that can contribute to generating Revenue. So how much could this Company be worth, if you added into the equation all the other ways that Revenue can be multiplied?
While we are too focused on Revenue, we fail to see the cost of that. We fail to see the missed opportunities. The foregone possibilities that are right in front of our faces. It takes a Recession or a Stock Market crash for us to take action and then instead of capitalising on assets, we cut them.
It is like only being able to see the colour green, when you are blinded by the colour green, you see nothing else. It is in the spectrum of colours, the entire ecosystem that real Revenue, real Success awaits.
